Pixar’s Cars Characters in Gastown

Mater Cars 2

On the Street: Mater from Pixar’s Cars movie is at Water and Alexander street, Gastown.

Very cute.

English Bay: Celebration of Light Fireworks

Spain put on a great show last night at English Bay. I’m glad we went early because there was an awesome airplane exhibition AND by 8pm it was just crazy busy at the beach.

I didn’t bring my dslr last night so I did not even bother to take photos of the fireworks. I did find this post that had a timelapse of the fireworks, which you can see here.

On The Street: I’m Sorry Vancouver

There’s been an outpouring of support for the City of Vancouver after the riot. “VANLOVER” stickers appeared on shop windows almost overnight in Downtown and some boarded-up windows contain messages of support. Along the bus stop on Granville and West Georgia, people are hanging square-cut cloths with positive messages.

I Heart Vancouver

Fete dela Musique Vancouver

Celebrated the start (and longest day) of summer with a free music festival in Gastown.

Fete dela Musique or Make Music Vancouver had over 200 bands play yesterday along West Cordova and Water Street. By the time I made my way to Gastown the party was in full swing. Bands were playing on the sidewalk and the crowd extended to the streets.

The crowd was kept relatively safe from oncoming traffic by Fete dela Musique volunteers, who formed human barricades. For everyone’s safety and enjoyment it would have been better if the organizers shut the street. But either way, it was a great event to kick-start summer!

Stanley Cup Finals: Vancouver’s Loss

I went to CBC Plaza to watch Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. The deciding game between Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins consumed the entire city, and you could not help but want to be a part of it. This is a picture I took from where I was standing during “happier times” (i.e. before Vancouver’s loss and subsequent destruction).

It was indeed fun – save for the people who possibly did not shower. Don’t they know a deodorant is the must have accessory this season?

But I’m glad I had the foresight to leave Downtown before the game ended because it got much worse. This is what happened at the same spot I was in when the Stanley Cup was awarded to the Boston Bruins.
