New Year’s Eve Nail Polish

My nails are ready to party in China Glaze Lorelei’s Tiara.

glitter nail polish

Glittery nail polish is a huge trend right now and almost all brands have been coming out with their own version.

What I’m wearing is part of China Glaze’s 3D glitter collection, so called because of the varying glitter sizes. I love that with just 2 coats my nails were completely opaque.

With plenty of glitter nail polish to choose from, it’s hard not to find something you like.

But if you’re still not sold on the idea – here’s a great peg I wish I saw before I had my nails done.

Love Maegan suggests painting your nails a nude color and then adding a stripe of glitter to one side of your nail. Isn’t it pretty?

Air Force 1 X Year of the Rabbit

February 3 marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year and the reign of the rabbit.

Celebrate it with brand new kicks from Nike.

This pair features the Chinese word for rabbit on the tongue and the rabbit insignia on the heel.

It is dated 2011, but the classic colorway will surely keep this in style ’til 2023.

Pyrrha Jewelry

I have a new addiction: Pyrrha.

I recently discovered the line of jewelry cast from 19th century wax seals and thanks to the boyfriend I got my first one! (Merry Christmas!)

Pyrrha Jewelry

He gave me the “Cherub” which is an angel sitting atop an anchor.

I love the line for its unpolished look. You can never get any two that’s completely identical because everything is handmade. What’s also good to know is all the jewelry are made using reclaimed silver and gold.

The Cherub has a French inscription which means: Hope Remains, Even in the Storm.

The meaning attached to each piece adds another dimension and is the likely culprit for my addiction. The Pyrrha talisman line in particular has a number of easily relatable pieces. The most common ones are “Carpe Diem” and  ”Winged Heart” which reads all for you.

Who am I kidding?

It also just really looks good worn in a layered style as shown to me by the lovely girls at Beauty Bar. In fact, I already know what I want to get next. Birthday gift perhaps?

Pyrrha has been around for a while and have been seen on a number of famous necks.  Their main studio is located in Kitsilano so it’s no surprise that a lot of stores in the area carry their stuff. If you can’t manage a trip to Kits, the line can also be found in all Blue Ruby locations.

This year they opened a second studio in Los Angeles which you can read about here: Pyrrha blog

Vancouver Christmas Market

Christkindlmarkt in Vancouver

The first Vancouver Christmas Market set up this year much to everyone’s excitement. I expected a large crowd so I let a couple of days slide before even attempting to go. On a day that promised rain (which thankfully proved untrue) I went straight from work and found no line ups at the entrance nor at Kathe Wohlfhart’s tent. Whew! The entrance fee is $5 but if you go on a weekday between 11am to 2pm you only pay $2.

Going around to see all there is to see (minus the Wohlfhart tent) can be done in under 10 minutes. Yes, it’s that small. Mini huts selling food, accessories and wares dotted Queen Elizabeth Theatre and in the middle is a decorated gazebo. On the night I went, a duo was singing under the gazebo while Mr. and Mrs. Gingerbread made their rounds. Over-all still a bit lacking in festivity though. What was great was the number of options you had for food. There was authentic German sausage, Black Forest ham, Quiché, and “Brataepfel” from Das Apfelhaus among others. Brataepfel is baked apple stuffed with nuts, raisin, and cinnamon topped with vanilla sauce. I could not resist the smell of baked apples so I had to get one. Each go for $5.50 a piece, a bit steep in price but it was worth the experience.

I went inside the Kathe Wohlfhart tent after eating a couple other delicacies with German names I can’t remember. The tent was my main reason for going to the Vancouver Christmas Market and I’m glad I got in so easily!

hand blown ornament

The decor were all so charming. There were hand blown glass ornaments, hand painted balls and wooden decor which Kathe Wohlfhart is famous for. I loved the cute Duftl Mannchen or German smoke blowers! Some are limited runs and numbered at the bottom with prices ranging from $30 to $200+. There’s not many left on display so I suggest you go to the Vancouver Christmas Market now if only to buy these fellas.
